Party Hardy, Party People!

Today's Funky Friday features a fun story about a fantastic, fabulous, festive fête, also known as a party.

Parties are one of the truly universal rituals that humans share. Parties transcend race, class, nationality and even species. Everybody likes to relax and unwind, listen to music, perhaps enjoy a few adult beverages and possibly sing until the wee hours of the morning.

And really, there are so many different types of parties. There are costume parties, cocktail parties, tea parties and more!

Plus there is party music! Some people enjoy rock music, while others might prefer a more romantic vibe. Others enjoy mixing pop rock with gangster rap to set the tone. Whatever theme or style you prefer, most people can agree that parties are the bomb, yo.

So what kind of parties do you enjoy? What kind of ambiance? What kind of crowd? Where do you like to party and do your parties usually end in hugs? Kisses? Violence? Vomit?

Let me know!

Your resident party animal,
Philip Cheeter!

Well, one of the largest parties in the world is without doubt the "Oktoberfest" in Munich, where I live.

The Oktoberfest is for Munich what the "carnival" is for other regions. It's a special, ephemeral period, something out the ordinary, a time in which people are allowed to play a role and let their hair down, something they always have to keep back.

And it's astonishing what can happen to people, who are usually relatively stern and restraint when they're are let loose in one of those beer tents, with that semi-Bavarian-folk music and some "Maß"- they begin to sing on top of their voice, prancing of the benches,
swaying to the music and giving you convivial hugs.

Let's be honest: Most time of the year, the typical inhabitant of Munich is grumpy - hearty- but grumpy. You may love him, but may feel the urge to hug
him - but he's grumpy. It's amazing what happens to him (and her) in the beer tent. Every anthropologist would be really delighted.

I do!

I like to rock the Bay Area Physics and Astronomy Society party once every 2 months (on average).
